The fat cat media moguls simply refuse to air the fine sport that in my opinion should be a Winter Olympic event.

but I could never be interested in it. Same with bowling, tennis, and pool, except pool and tennis are more fun to play than to watch from my experience. I'm also not much into college sports or hockey, but I watch those when I'm desperate for something to watch.

And last. I haven't completely given up watching it, but i'm only watching match-ups of top 20 teams.

They are HORRIBLY overcoached in X's and O's, but lots of really poor fundamental play and just terrible man to man defense.

And, with everyone shooting 3's, they are still only scoring in the 60's.

I was in HS in the early 70's, and our team averaged >70 points a game and we only played 9 minute quarters.

Major college guys ought to be averaging over 80 a game and there are no teams of note even close.

That does not bode well for the future of the NBA, where man to man is the only kind of defense there is.

Easy to say (admittedly) now that the season is over, but I have every intention of following through come this August.

Why:

• CTE and other long-term injury -- I can't support a game that is the root of so much suffering. Doctors suggest CTE can begin as early as Pop Warner play. It's been diagnosed in college players.

• Odious greed, from the NCAA to the NFL and mainstream media. Make a buck, any way possible.

I just hate the sound of sticks clacking off each other. The sounding of players "boarding" just peaves me off. Then there is the announcers. I truly hate that hockey announcers on TV who think they are broadcasting on radio. I don't need everything I can see in full detail explained to me as it happens. I hate hearing the call, "a jam up in the corner". I still can't figure out, even after all these years, why a player is waved of from a face off. too anxious? Is that a reason to tell someone to screw? CAnd as posted above, the insane idea of "fighting". Which in this day and age, is someone holding a shirt with one hand while the other hand swings at someone's helmet hoping the player slips on the ice thereby losing. Icing.

Verbal diarrhea.

And they are all Canadien!

A friend of my wife said that the rink at Coors Field last night is so far away that they can't see a thing.

Which brings up another point. You can't see the puck on TV!

The NHL is the most unAmerican sport in America.

Since you mentioned icing, i'll also mention offsides.

Dumb rule. (Just not as dumb as soccer's offside rule.)

It punishes the fastest, niftiest skaters in a league where they routinely promote the speed of the game. An inherent contradiction.

And, i'm really with you on fighting. They don't do polls of sports fans that DON'T watch hockey now asking whether fighting should be banned. They ask the existing fan base only which may be part of the reason the sport quit growing in popularity.

They are catering to a bare majority of existing fans at the expense of alienating potentially 50 million north american sports fans that don't watch their games now.

It's gotten worse and worse over the years. But I stuck with it because the Lakers were still good.
