The first step in replacing Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler has come down for the Denver Broncos. It likely won't be the last.
John Elway has traded for Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional draft pick, per KUSA's Mike Klis, which is a good job by Eagles GM Howie Roseman getting something for a player he likely was going to cut soon anyway.
Does that mean the Broncos intend to make Mark Sanchez, who has been beaten out by Sam Bradford and Co. in Philly, their starter? Signs point to no. The Broncos are acquiring a player with a backup quarterback's salary and who hasn't been considered starting-caliber in league circles for years.
No, "The Sanchize" likely isn't Elway's projected front man. That would be quite the drop in reputation, even if Manning roundly struggled last season. Elway pretty much confirmed Sanchez's role when he said "first step in the process" in a tweet:

I think they'd be better off with Sanchez starting than with Kap...we shall see!

(2,679 posts)But honestly, Kap is good, pretty good actually. Needs to improve on reading defenses.
Denver has many issues though. Like Malik Jackson signed with the Jaguars for a monster $90 million contract. Danny Trevathan left for the Bears and $24 million. And C.J. Anderson has signed an offer sheet with the Dolphins for $18 million, which the Broncos have four days to match or they'll lose him.

(17,086 posts)The Browns have lost five players through free agency this offseason, and some players over the past couple of weeks have said privately that they view playing in Cleveland like going to college: up to four years and they're out.
But Kaepernick is embracing the idea of playing for the Browns, sources say. The Browns and 49ers have had trade conversations.
To date, the Browns have expressed more interest than the Broncos, who have been slow-playing their interest in Kaepernick so far.

(2,679 posts)So this article made me happy.
BTW - I stopped having favorite NFL team when the cowboys cut Emmitt Smith. These days its the players I follow, and every now and then I get soft spots for teams.

(17,086 posts)I don't really follow players around the league much. Let them chase the money. I'll just root for my team.

(20,365 posts)I liked Peyton a lot more than the Donkos franchise. And I disowned the Cowpies when Jerry Jones took over.

(10,893 posts)Super Bowl hangover? They're shedding decent players, and now have this guy as their QB. They may not even win the West next year!
