I flipped this on and there was about 3.5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Connecticut had 2 starters in the game but in about 60 seconds they were out too.
The score was 81-18. 81 to 18 with over three minutes and one whole quarter to go.
Zero seconds by starters for the last 12 minutes of the game. Less than two minutes played by starters in the last 6 minutes of the first half.
In fact, the stat sheet showed even the first player off the bench was not in the game for 6 of the minutes when all five starters were sitting.
I think it was Rebecca Lobo that said they have won their three tournament games by an average of forty something points. And she mentioned that in the first round game, no starter played past 7 minutes to go in the 3rd.
I guess i can't understand how one team got THAT much better than everybody else. This is not just dominant. It's ridiculous.

(78,249 posts)The games were on Connecticut Public Television back then. They were one of the few sporting events I could watch live without risking injury to myself, since the outcome was basically predetermined. And they'd roll up leads like that by halftime, then put in the bench players. This is how they get to be so good, you see: unlike most teams, UConn's bench players get significant playing time.

(72,790 posts)Not fun at all. So boring. And it's really not good basketball. I think the women's game is in a bad place right now.

(65,042 posts)They're really very good. The problem is, they're the only one. The rest of the game is far too static. Too much pick and roll and isolation, and very little transition game.
Except for UCONN. They run a motion attack and they can run and run. They also switch from zone to man and back without a hint of the switch.
I know people think they're bad for the game because they're so dominant. But, i'm kind of a "dynasty" and "greatness" guy, and that team is great.

(56,177 posts)and UCONN's dominance stopped that. The women's game has never been popular...the only reason they're getting any interest now is because of this dynasty, which will probably be over in a week...they'll win from time to time and get a couple more titles, but they have some of the best players EVER right now...
