This weekend, Showtime will feature a double-header. In the main event, Wilder defends his heavyweight title against Ortiz. Many fans think it is an easy bout for Wilder. I don't. As good as he is, he makes mistakes per his balance. That is potentially dangerous against Ortiz.

On the undercard, friend Willie Monroe, Jr. has a very tough middleweight bout. I favor Willie, but respect his opponent.

A week later, Willie will be staying with our friend Eric. We're planning for him to watch my son and his team-mate train for the NYS Golden Gloves. The friend is in the semi-finals on March 18; I anticipate he will win, and then both will compete in the finals in April.

They spar 3 to 4 times a week at the local YMCA (our "home gym" doesn't have enough space). As a result, there is a growing number of teens and young adults asking me to train them -- some for competition, some for the workout and self-defense.

It turns out my son does have a semi-final bout on March 18. Things change in amateur boxing.

2. How did your son do in his bout?

Also, do you think that Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder is going to happen? Will it have to be postponed until after Joshua fights Povetkin? Finally, do you think they will make him fight two more mandatory challengers before fighting Wilder? Here is what I read:

Who do you favor, Wilder or Joshua? For that matter, could Povetkin pull off a win?

3. I just got

back yesterday evening from the finals. Both my fighters took 2nd place. My son was stopped on a bloody nose, of all things, though he had his opponent on the ropes and was hurting him. But other fighters were stopped on bloody noses, so I can't complain.

My super heavyweight went against the defending champion in his home town. He definitely won the first two rounds, and lost the third. But a 5-4 split decision went to the home town fighter. The crowd, and even the guy's corner men, knew my fighter won. But that's how the sport goes.

We'll be fighting about once per month from May to the end of the year, then back to the NYS Golden Gloves in 2019.

I think that Joshua showed both skills and weaknesses in the Parker fight. I would slightly favor Wilder at this point. I'm not big on Povetkin, due to the repeated PED violations. But, if he stays clean, he'd have a shot at winning, though I'd favor Anthony.
