The St. Louis Rams have decided to trade the No. 2 pick, league sources said Monday.
According to sources, the Rams already have had trade discussions with the Cleveland Browns (No. 4), Washington Redskins (No. 6) and Miami Dolphins (No. 8), each of whom is scheduled to pick in the top eight in April's draft.
The Rams, who already have quarterback and 2010 top pick Sam Bradford, also have discussed a potential trade with teams outside the top 10, according to a source, but it will be challenging for one to surrender enough compensation to vault to the second overall pick.
The Rams are seeking a deal similar to what the San Diego Chargers got for the rights to 2004 top overall pick Eli Manning, sources said Monday.

(31,169 posts)Interesting to see Cleveland in the mix for (presumably) Griffin. I had hope for Colt McCoy. Of course, Cleveland could trade the pick to someone else. If Griffin goes first the fight for Luck will be intense.

The San Francisco 49ers.

(31,169 posts)imagine the 49ers wanting to reunite Andrew Luck with Jim Harbaugh really, really bad.
Now, on the crazy chance the Colts take Griffin instead of Luck, that leaves the Rams -- already with Sam Bradford -- in position to deal their second round pick for a lot more draft choices. No way they'd EVER deal that pick to a division foe like the 49ers, so S.F. uses the Browns as a smoke screen. Once St. Louis makes the deal with the Cleveland, the 49ers make the deal with the Browns.
What San Francisco needs long-term is a QB. What they need short term -- wideouts -- they can get in free agency or perhaps later in the draft, this being a deep draft for wide receivers.
Even if the Colts take Luck, the 49ers can still sign Griffin.
Just speculation, like I said.
