Drew Brees has ligament injury to his throwing thumb
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees left Sundays game against the Los Angeles Rams after suffering a thumb injury in the first half, and he is set to undergo more tests on Monday to determine the extent.
What is known is that Brees is dealing with some sort of ligament injury to his right thumb, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The question is whether it is something as minor as a sprain or as major as a tear.
Brees does not sound all that optimistic, as he told reporters on Sunday that he is concerned the injury could be significant and he has never had more trouble gripping a football during his NFL career. His thumb was heavily wrapped both during and after the game.
The injury happened on the second drive of the game, when Brees hand met with Aaron Donalds on a pass attempt. He was replaced by Teddy Bridgewater for the remainder of the afternoon.
