Kansas' Self wins Naismith Coach of Year honor

As he prepares for his ultimate goal, Kansas coach Bill Self took home a nice warm-up prize Sunday, earning the Naismith Men's College Basketball Coach of the Year award.

Self, whose Jayhawks will play Kentucky for the NCAA championship Monday night, was the third Kansas coach to win the award, the most for any school.

"This is a terrific honor," Self said in a statement. "When you think of postseason awards, anything that has (James) Naismith's name in front of it is a huge award and certainly I'm very proud of this."

Self has led the Jayhawks to a 32-6 record, including Saturday's 64-62 national semifinal win over Ohio State.
