Hudson, Morse lead Giants past Cleveland 5-1
After the Giants went 76-86 last season, general manager Brian Sabean left the bulk of his roster intact. He did bring in two key free agents, pitcher Tim Hudson and outfielder Michael Morse.
Hudson and Morse took care of the heavy lifting Friday night as the Giants took care of Cleveland 5-1 in the opener of a three-game series in China Basin.
Though he lost his walkless-innings streak, Hudson (3-1) limited Cleveland to a run on four hits in seven innings. He has lasted at least seven innings in each of his first five starts with San Francisco.
The last S.F. pitcher to work at least seven innings in his first five starts of a season? Livan Hernandez, who did so in six in 2002.
With two outs and a man aboard in the first, Hudson walked catcher Carlos Santana. That free pass was notable in that it was the first issued by Hudson this season. He had gone 30 innings without a walk, the longest such streak to start a season in franchise history.
