SF Giants are wearing special Sea Lions jerseys for Juneteenth commemoration

They are special replica uniforms of the San Francisco Sea Lions as they mark the 75th anniversary of the club that participated in the West Coast Negro Baseball Association. The San Francisco Sea Lions only played one season, and yes, that is a Cub logo because the Sea Lions were gifted the uniforms from the defunct San Francisco Cubs.

The Sea Lions jerseys worn by the Giants will be auctioned off from June 19-26, with the proceeds benefiting San Francisco Juneteenth celebrations.

I grew up in the Bay Area and I'm gobsmacked I never heard of the short lived West Coast Negro Baseball League

I suspect Willie Mays didn't hear much of the experiment either, but he DID go on to play at Seals Stadium. And Boy howdy, did he play!

Following the Giants from afar this weekend and wondered what was behind the “new” uniform. It’s a good look.

There's a dearth of information out there. I was trying to flesh out the stories on both teams and kinda struck out. Hell, when I search 'San Francisco Cubs', all I get are box scores between the SF Giants and the Chicago Cubs.

But I discovered one nugget I found amusing:

West Coast Negro Baseball Association team, The Los Angeles White Sox played in Los Angeles' Wrigley Field. Wrigley, and the Cubs had a large footprint in LA (spring training out on Catalina Island, and all), but why the intentional snub of naming the team after the other Chicago team?
