and we cut out paper outlines of the bird smashes. When they didn't wash the windows for at least 5 years, it stopped.

Eagle, hawk, owl sillhouettes are all used to repel smaller birds -- but some experts say they don't work.

Animals don't have out ability of abstraction. They rarely can look at something in 2-D and recognize it as the 3-D object. And since these aren't moving, they probably don't really recognize it as a "bird in flight". It's just a "black spot on a window".
