8-hour layover in Frankfurt. What do I have time for if I leave the airport for a bit?

This is 1 week from today with London as my final destination.

Never visited Germany before. I speak enough German to have simple conversations as long as people don't speak too quickly.

take the underground train into the city to the Romer Platz, look art the ancient cathedral and then walk about 3 blocks to the Main River, if you have time take a boat ride up the river and back, if not then stop at anoutdoor cafe and have a meal and a drink. There is also Goethe Haus and there is a Museum that speaks about Ann Frank, she was born in Frankfurt

No need for the train as we have some family friends stationed at Ramstein. They're going pick us up at the airport and drive us around for the day.

We'll definitely be doing the Anne Frank thing. My wife is fascinated with history of the Holocaust and this will be a perfect fit for her. Not too strenuous and something we can fit into the available time.

I was stuck there for 17 hours due to flight cancelation in June. The airline put me up at a hotel 30 minutes from airport and it was 5PM. I had to walk a quarter mile to a restaurant, had a great meal, and slept.
