Chicago Atheist Group Sets Up Holiday Display to Protest Nativity Scene

by Josh Feldman | 7:50 pm, November 27th, 2013

The Chicago chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation is protesting the inclusion of a nativity scene in Daley Plaza for the Christmas season by setting up their own display, a giant red letter A, and choosing to honor the Bill of Rights during the holidays. The display is accompanied by a banner showing a nativity scene of its own featuring Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams.

Here is the display being set up in Daley Plaza:

The banner accompanying the display commemorates the Bill of Rights and its emphasis on freedom not just of religion, but from religion.

“At this season of the Winter Solstice, we celebrate the birth of the Unconquered Sun — the TRUE reason for the season. As Americans, let us also honor the birth of our Bill of Rights, which reminds us there can be no freedom OF religion, without having freedom FROM religion in government.”

The display was erected in Daley Plaza on Tuesday.
