Spain protesters rally against tougher abortion law

The new law says early termination is no longer a right, and would only be allowed in cases of rape or when two doctors judge the mother's health to be at serious risk.

Currently women have the right to abort up to the 14th week of pregnancy, rising to 22 weeks in case of foetal deformities.

The current law, brought in by Spain's previous Socialist government in 2010, was opposed by the Catholic Church and conservative groups.

They say abortion law should not be based on a woman's right to decide, but the right to life of the unborn child.

that the abortion argument is strictly economic in nature and not about religion

or that it's political in nature, not religious

WHATEVER THE REASON....those that want to make abortion illegal AREN'T DOING IT BECAUSE OF RELIGION. so stop saying that.

4. Well I can't prove what is going on *inside* their little heads

so I guess I'll just keep posting stuff here about the astounding coincidence between religiosity and behavior that is either totally off the fucking wall or anathema to progressives, or both.

I suppose I might rather have interesting discussions with people here about religion and society, but that is impossible.

7. Wondering "what is going on *inside* their little heads" is just the way to begin a discussion.

No wonder you're having difficulty.

5. Since I've made a impression on you, Heddi, why don't you jusrt rebut it instead of quote-mining?

Oh, and your words are a clumsy and inaccurate paraphrase.

Did you forget you're not in your little safe haven?

You quote mine.

You apply to it a veneer of your own making.

You are called on it.

You retreat to nonsense.

I link to posts you've made where you deny that opposition to abortion rights and access is based on religion.

You don't like that

you retreat to making personal attacks, which isn't so much a "retreat" as "return to baseline"

I don't care

you retreat to making personal attacks, which isn't so much a "retreat" as "return to baseline"

I still don't care

15. And before one can make the predicitable "BUT YOU CARE ENOUGH TO POST!!!:!111!11"! argument

I really don't care enough to post.

I'm nursing an illness, and doing homework.

it's a diversion from the two nasty tasks that have decided to fill my day.

This is the veneer you applied:

Well, it has been pointed out by one poster
that the abortion argument is strictly economic in nature and not about religion

These are the actual words:

The criminalization of abortion is economics based.

It is a superb method of control and submission.

The pro-life movement began after abortion became legal and this method of control was lost.

Who do you think is behind it and why? Religious groups make handy footsoldiers but the goal here is the resumption of control, not the sanctity of life.

Oh, and the Tea party is not a grass roots movement either. Tea Party patriots are not patriots

Now, I frankly don't give a shit about the words you type as I find them for the most part to be shallow, derivative and posturing.

I do give a shit about my own words.
