"What are (Some) Christians Saying About 'Cosmos' on Twitter? You've Been Warned..."

Wow, and they believing in God is insane? Takes more "faith" to believe what I just watched. #Cosmos

Degrasse Tyson just said that life may have come from space. That's the naturalistic evolutionary version of the God of the gaps. #cosmos

More here.

Of course we are told in this Religion group that these people are really that big of a part of the population so don't worry.

for the "there really aren't that many young earth creationists," "people don't take the bible literally," "those that don't get the bible is a metaphor are such a small percentage" discussions.

and confirm that they weren't young earth creationists - but I'm pretty sure most DU Christians are aware of the religious right and the problem they and their anti-Science agenda pose.

I guess that's where context comes into it; if there's a broad brush smear of believers than in response to that people might over state their case.

That's what many people here say too, that science is just another way of looking at the world, no better than religion, based on faith, etc., etc. Guess they have a lot in common with the offended fundies.

I feel it had a great, if simplified, definition of how the scientific method works.

I do not believe any group's teachings had the intent to inhibit exploration and knowledge

Science and faith are not mutually exclusive but seems some want it that way now more than ever a bigger contingent is growing and not on the side of science lab folks

oh and for those who say just a few whacks.......no

Yes I read some of those post. All that's being discussed in cosmos is science based on research. Empirical evidence, which is all over the bible right?

How is it possible to be dumber than a sack of rocks.

Anyway thanks Goblinmonger for the post.

I have to admit, though, that when I was watching it last night down here in the Bible Belt, I thought, "Ooh, the fundagelicals aren't going to like that part" several times.

Edited to add: I saw the original back when I was in junior high and loved it. I was great to see Dr. Tyson doing an updated version and I really enjoyed it, especially when he told his story about meeting Carl Sagan. (So jealous!)

we are all star-dust stuff, nor the Spanish inquisition stuff. He came right out about the separation of church and state (rah, rah for him). So I'm sure they weren't too hyped on it. I figure Fox is carrying it because they are actually embarrassed about their viewing base being creationists.

I mean Fox "News" is what we all know it is. But compare what they are putting on that channel to what they put on FX. I mean Archer is on FX for fucks sake. And even look at Family Guy on Fox.

But, yeah, I hope they are embarrassed about their base.
