In all the talk about Federally-funded faith based organizations not being able to discriminate...
against people for being LGBT, with no religious exceptions allowed. Which is a good thing, I do find it interesting that in article after article they point out that religious discrimination in hiring IS allowed for faith based organization, was implemented by Bush, and continued under Obama. Even more interesting, there no controversy on this part of the program.
What the fuck? My taxpayer money is going to organizations that discriminate openly. That is just straight up bullshit. I'll be honest and say that I think that we should abolish the whole "Faith Based Initiatives" office entirely, all it does is divert needed resources from effective public programs and puts them in the hands of organizations with little oversight, higher overhead costs, and smaller reach.
Even more interesting, does allowing religious discrimination give religious organizations a way to circumvent Obama's recent executive order? Could a Catholic charity, for example, forbid a gay person from being hired, not because they are gay, but because they are in violation of Catholic rules, for example, by being married to someone of the same sex, or "living in sin".
