Connecticut religious groups march against death penalty

The Associated Press

HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut Christian religious leaders who oppose the death penalty will be marching in Hartford in favor of repealing the punishment at the state level.

The Bishops of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut and others plan to march from the Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford to the Capitol, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Religious leaders say they will enact the Stations of the Cross during the march, with prayers and meditations on the abolition of the death penalty offered at each station. The stations depict the lead-up to Jesus' crucifixion.

This year, Connecticut legislators are considering a bill that would abolish the state death penalty for future cases and replace it with life imprisonment.
