And now, the lighter side of religious news!

WASHINGTONAdmitting the startling discovery had compelled him to reexamine his long-held beliefs, His Holiness Pope Francis announced Tuesday that he had reversed his critical stance toward capitalism after seeing the immense variety of Oreos available in the United States. Oh, my goodness, look at all these! Golden Oreos, Cookie Dough Oreos, Mega Stuf Oreos, Birthday Cake Oreosperhaps the system of free enterprise is not as terrible as I once feared, said the visibly awed bishop of Rome while visiting a Washington, D.C. supermarket, adding that the sheer diversity of flavors, various colors and quantities of creme filling, and presence or absence of an outer fudge layer had led to a profound philosophical shift in his feelings toward the global economy and opened his eyes to the remarkable capabilities of the free market.

(2,212 posts)Very funny stuff, as usual. Much love for The Onion.
P.S.: There's some truth behind this satire. Have you visited the cookie aisle in your grocery store lately and seen the number of Oreo variations? There's at least a dozen now. Not that I'm suggesting anyone buy them--they're like pills designed to cause Type 2 Diabetes--but the flavor variations certainly are imaginative.
On edit: Turns out there are at least 22 Oreo variations. Check out the list below.

(1,945 posts)Everyone of those 'odd' flavored Oreos sounds awful to me. I gave up on Oreos all together years ago, just way too sweet. But one that kind of threw me for a loop is what I have to call a skinny Oreo--Oreo Thins. Same cookie but less filling. They're marketing it as an 'adult treat'. Yeah, really they're giving you less for your money and trying to make it a cool thing. I suppose some people will fall for it.

(2,212 posts)Hadn't heard of that. The diametrical opposite of the "Double Stuffs."
Honestly, I find all the variations amusing. And I'll confess to wanting to try one of those "Banana Split Oreos." I guess that's vanilla, strawberry, and banana cream inside the chocolate wafer. Definitely wanna try one.

So funny and so thought provoking at the same time.
The things we take for granted here are seemingly endless.

(57,349 posts)The last Oreos I bought were mint.
I just added the Key Lime ones to my grocery list.
I just hope they don't have gelatin in them.

(4,291 posts)They have light green filling. True Key Lime Pies have pale yellow -- not green -- filling.
But at least they cookie part is graham cracker.
I just hope they're tart enough...

(57,349 posts)My mom made a wicked Key Lime pie, pale yellow and tart, so wonderful...
I find most processed foods too sweet but I'm willing to give these a try.
