(670 posts)"Somehow God has been pushed out of the Democratic Party and it has become an atheist party. Many Democrat voters believe in God and are discouraged because their voice and values are ignored by the party"
Exactly which values are being ignored by the party? It seems to me that many Democratic Party politicians hold many moral values similar to those expressed in the major religions. Helping those less fortunate, being (somewhat) anti-war, anti-death penalty, being against cruelty towards animals, being good stewards of the environment.

(13,452 posts)The main ideals of Christianity and other religions are best effected under Democrats. Republicans do the opposite and talk a facade of religiosity. IMNSHO.
It is profitable enough for the current right wing to purchase trolls that make any Democratic site look like it is against anyone of religion to enjoin that site. DU especially. And, the most vocal ones on DU oft come at someone in a pack which has left me suspicious on many occasions. It is very easy to get software that would allow one or more paid operative to come at other posters with an army of sock-puppet names.
With or without the case of paid trolls, sites are subjected to this and it does keep Democrats from getting votes from the large voting block of religious Americans.
And, I think that is what he is talking about.

(7,670 posts)end with an invocation to the Christian God?
Isn't that enough for the religious? What more do they want? Their God in the party platform? Why?
If only the United States had truly secular political parties, that would be great, at least then those of us who aren't religious wouldn't be shunted to the side in the name of religious privilege.

(13,452 posts)As far as being shunted goes, it's either yourselves or themselves that are going to be shunted. They are currently the larger group. And in America, larger wins.
Being a bit repressed you might understand how black people and women feel about the governance they would like.

(8,965 posts)Whether it be freedom OF religion, or freedom FROM religion. The government is prohibited from establishing a state-sponsored religion. And politically-motivated religious litmus tests such as this one help to clarify why the First Amendment exists to begin with.
our Pres. candidate is a lot more religious than theirs.

(101,355 posts)Thankfully? Well, yes, because when you look at Harbach's message:

you'd wonder if he was running for the Republicans after all. Complaining about "executive orders protecting radical Islam and criminals by limiting how the F.B.I. can investigate them"?
