Top brass at the Metro Atlanta Chamber said Wednesday they will make avoiding another firestorm of controversy over religious liberty legislation a top priority when the state Legislature reconvenes in January.
SunTrust Banks Executive Vice President Jenner Wood, the outgoing chairman of the chambers board, said the conversation alone over the legislation, which critics deride as discriminatory toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, is damaging to the states reputation of tolerance and inclusion. It also can dent Georgias economic progress since the recession.
Earlier this year, the state House and Senate passed HB 757, igniting days of unblinking media coverage and calls by business leaders and civil rights groups for Gov. Nathan Deal to veto the measure. He did a few days after the session ended.
Deals veto angered many in the Republican base, and supporters of the legislation have vowed a new battle in 2017.

Not to be cynical, but I think their decision is based more on the bottom line than on equality.

That is the double edged sword aspect of corporate support of diversity. It is in no way associated with warm and fuzzy inclusion, but all about the bottom line and having and keeping top talent.
