There are so many great paragraphs and charts, it's like Christmas for atheists.
According to Bullivant, many young Europeans will have been baptised and then never darken the door of a church again. Cultural religious identities just arent being passed on from parents to children. It just washes straight off them.
In the Czech Republic, 70% said they never went to church or any other place of worship, and 80% said they never pray.
Christianity as a default, as a norm, is gone, and probably gone for good or at least for the next 100 years,

(2,343 posts)some may get offended, but religion is the cause of a poop load of problems around the world. Sometimes these people feel like they're helping by bringing the word of god to other parts of the world whom they convert, but they also bring the hateful parts like hating gays and abstinence only crap and no birth control and no abortions.
Those who practice their religion but who keep it to themselves or only to others who inquire about it, are fine. But those who believe they are instructed to go out and spread the word, are awful.
God forbid you ever marry a Mormon who no longer goes to church. Aye yi yi! They will certainly come a knockin, and a knockin, and a knockin... Good lord, we moved 100 miles away, and they're still a knockin, and a knockin, and a knockin...

(49,533 posts)While it has been a good belief system for some (who are moral enough to reject the atrocious parts), overall the experiment has been a failure.
Time for something else. People seem to be choosing freethought rather than another religion - maybe we should see how it does?
