Pope to give Chilean bishops a dressing-down on abuse errors

Last edited Mon May 14, 2018, 09:31 PM - Edit history (1)

From the article:

Pope Francis has summoned Chile’s bishops to Rome for a papal dressing-down because of their role in covering up sexual abuse by priests and their “grave omissions” in caring for victims, the Vatican said.
In a harsh statement that set the tone for next week’s meetings, the Vatican on Saturday (May 12) said Francis wanted to discern responsibilities for the crisis and map changes in the Chilean church to prevent these “devastating wounds” from recurring.

That's quite convenient, isn't it? MineralMan May 2018 #4
That's odd, since such covering-up has been standard policy of the RCC MineralMan May 2018 #5

Rape a child?

Say 3 Hail Marys and pull weeds in the Vatican garden for a month.

That will square you with the Lord, although you might need a few months of sabbatical until the heat dies down back home.

for quite a long time. One hopes Il Papa takes a close, introspective look at the behavior of the organization he leads, and at his own leadership, as well. He has, himself, dismissed accusations of such abuse, and recently.

Are any of them going to lose their jobs because they enabled the rape of children?

Let me know, thanks!

Seems to me there has been too much removing of clothing and such things with regard to this whole business.

I'm not sure the answer lies in doing more of the same. But, what do I know?

Still, the idea of a bunch of undressed Bishops - Ewww!

Yes, I'm sure the fear of papal chastisement will scare dioceses the world over into, I dunno, doing what almost any right-thinking layperson would do under the same circumstances. That's progress!

Their "errors" include:

For years, sex abuse victims have blasted the Chilean hierarchy for discrediting their claims, protecting abusers, moving them around rather than turning them over to police and then handing out light sentences when church sanctions are imposed.

Oopsie! Accidentally reassigned another child rapist! Gosh darnit!

Over and over and over again. All over the world. Decades of abuse and malfeasance throughout the entire institution have been extensively documented.
