Religion
Related: About this forumReligious people are less likely to get bored, which makes them less inclined to search for meaning
http://www.psypost.org/2018/05/study-religious-people-less-likely-get-bored-makes-less-inclined-search-meaning-51250The research had a secondary, more subtle, but nonetheless interesting purpose: If boredom normally makes people search for new purpose or meaning, then could it be that religiosity, through reducing boredom, indirectly prevents people from doing so?
...Non-religious people who were subjected to a mundane task transcribing an excerpt about lawn mowing tended to report higher levels of boredom. They were also more likely than religious people to say they wanted to do something of greater significance.
By reducing boredom, religiosity indirectly tempered the quest for meaning, van Tilburg told PsyPost. To be clear: this does not mean that religious people do not search for meaning in their lives. Rather, the findings suggests that, counter-intuitively, religious people are less inclined to search for meaningful alternatives in situations where others would feel bored.
I guess this might help explain how some people are willing to go back and read through 6 years of old DU posts looking for reasons to hate others.

(146,288 posts)The topic had to do with religious people and boredom, and the relationship of those. The relies were simply generic ramblings about boredom alone.

(42,641 posts)My guess is that because the replies did not confirm the poster's point, you decided that they were rambling.

Such hypocrisy.
I'm missing 25 posts and loving it.
Why posting now? I'm clearing pages in my phone's browser this morning. And I'm bored.

The post contains internal dissonance. (And yes, you can read an indirect reference to the choir if you wish.)

Here's one:

Done. Atheists DON'T dump on "any" thread. YOU ARE FACTUALLY WRONG. Your claim is disproven, and it was laughably easy to do so.
But for the sake of argument, I asked if you had been right, and an atheist dumped on religion in EVERY thread, so what? Why does that bother you? Why don't you want atheists to speak their opinions?
No dissonance here gil, just an acknowledgment of reality followed by some indulging in your fantasy.

(42,641 posts)You insist on your own definition of what a victory for you would be.
So, your statement seems to be an admission of the existence of the 11th Commandment. Thank you for confirming what is obvious.
