He is the go to guy on cults.

I suggest this because Ross lists cult characteristics on his site. One of the main ones is disconnection, where a cult forbids, or makes it difficult, for people to leave by disconnecting them from outsiders, people not within the cult.

Both Mormons and Scientologists do this, but especially Scientologists are particularly insidious about it. It is called fair game in L. Ron "Drunkard" Hubbard's parlance.

Ross is the source on cults with compendious info.

Once you are recorded as Catholic even excommunication doesn't get you removed from the rolls.
