Pat Robertson's CBN Suggests God Moved Hurricane to Protect Republicans
28 comments By David

The religious lifestyle show hosted by televangelist Pat Robertson on Monday suggested that Christians in Florida had convinced God to move soon-to-be Hurricane Isaac away from Tampa, Florida to protect Republicans.

During a segment about how Isaac forced the first day of Republican National Convention to be cancelled, Christian Broadcasting Network's Paul Strand noted that Current TV host Jennifer Granholm sent out a "snarky tweet" saying that "God has ways to shut that whole thing down."

"For anybody who's a liberal who's part of a party that would like to whitewash God out of America, it's amazing that she's acknowledging that God has any part in the storm," conservative radio host Bill Bunkley told CBN.

"But gratitude's been a predominant attitude in Tampa's Christian circles as it looks like the city will escape much of Isaac's wrath," Strand reported, pointing out that the group "Pray Tampa Bay" was leading an effort to "cover the party conventions in prayer."

this time of year in New Orleans. It's supposed to start tomorrow and was totally wiped out in 2007, when Robertson blamed it on Katrina.

He's despicable.

8. Yes, they did. From the article:

"We have had lots and lots of people praying around the clock that it would move," Rev. Jesten Peters explained. "And if you watch from the very beginning where they were saying it was coming up and now where they're saying it's going, then it's really moved a lot for us, and we appreciate God doing that and moving it for us."

I mean, how could he have justified that? GOP wasn't praying hard enough?

moving it from one GOP target to another GOP target isn't really God showing preference to the GOP.

Mouse over each county to see the breakdown of registered voters by party, race, etc.

Posted for no other reason than I love this kind of geeky stuff.

FYI, I grew up in South Carolina. "The South" is a tricky area to pigeonhole and it's not all GOP. From North Carolina to Mississippi (except Florida), each state is really sort of 3 states in one - the coast, the central region and the hills/mountains. Very generally speaking, the coasts tend to be more liberal and the central/hill regions more conservative. That wouldn't apply to places like the Research Triangle area in upper North Carolina, which is one reason the place is tricky to pigeonhole.

I grew up about 40 miles from Bob Jones University, but even that area seems to be getting progressively (no pun intended) more liberal.

Partly due to an influx of Northern retirees looking for lower costs of living. Based on my visits and emails from relatives, the Northern retirees are bringing in Communistic new-fangled ideas like zoning laws. Which is annoying some of my former neighbors...those free-spirited Real Americans who enjoy decorating their yards with 3 generations of Camaros and their porches with Appliance Art.

Many believers in this group call what you are doing flat-out bigotry.
