I asked yesterday how long it would take until a religious right nut blamed Hurricane Sandy on the gays. And, my friends, we have a winner:
Hurricane Sandy is hitting 21 years to the day of the Perfect Storm of October 20, 1991. I write about this in my book as America Has Done to Israel. This was the day that President George Bush Sr. initiated the Madrid Peace Process to divide the land of Israel, including Jerusalem. America has been under Gods judgment since this event. Both of these hurricanes were cause by freakish weather patterns that came together to create

Apparently, its Mitt Romneys fault too:
I warned and warned of the danger of this election, if the church did not repent before the Lord. America is under political judgment, and Gods people are looking for a political savior rather than crying out to God in repentance. Is a pro-homosexual Mormon going to save the nation?

(17,671 posts)I think it's pretty rude to make that comparison, even in jest. A lot of truly mentally ill people have suffered because of that social policy and it's a disservice to conflate religious doctrine, however misguided, with the truly needy.

(230 posts)many of the people i deal with on a daily basis are mentally ill and i have much more respect for them than i do for most "successful" conservatives. unfortunately i'm known to say stupid things on a daily basis. i guess that qualifies me to be a republcan

(17,671 posts)I grew up not too terribly far from where they'll hand you a snake in church. Believe me, I've thought and said more than once, "they're fucking crazy". But then I have to remind myself that I've fought depression since I was a kid, and maybe I'm Just as much a member of the walking wounded as anybody. It may have been little more than luck that I didn't let those snake oil peddling fuckers feed off my weaknesses like all the rest. I think the common phrase is, "There but for the grace of God..."
I'm not injured to the core of my being and you're not an asshole. Hell, tomorrow I may stick my entire leg in my mouth. It wouldn't be the first time. I don't hold the patent on right or wrong, or the copyright on what's funny.
It seems to me we're doing what we're supposed to be doing. Both of us. We're just trying to get along through mutual understanding. What could be wrong with that?
