I was watching the History Show, Banned from the Bible....

And they talked about Jubilee. Now I had heard about this book before and the writer claimed that it answered some question that the literalisticly inclined had about the creation.

What they focused on was Cain finding a wife and what Jubilee said he was married his sister before heading over to Nod.

People take this stuff way to literally. To me, I see that Adam was the first Jewish person and that Eve was the first Jewish woman. The Eden that they were banned from was paradise and that God banishing the pair from Eden and into the world.

This goes along with the idea of the Chosen people. God chose them to start the Jewish faith, the one God above all others.

So Cain set out and married a person who was not Jewish.

End of story to me.

Does that ring a bell?

I was one of the kids in Catholic School who always shot his hand up and asked where did Cain's wife come from...

Seriously, what I was trying to say that the creation story in the Bible is about the begining of those who choose to worship only one God vs. all the other old religions that create multiple Gods to cover all the mysteries.

But, Adam felt Lilith was too headstrong and would not submit properly to him. When he complained to god, God said: (paraphrasing) I only know how to make them one way - perfect! But Adam still objected, so then god took a rib, fashioned another woman, and called her Eve. Lilith was definitely Jewish.

mary was the village slut who would have been stoned in the streets .jesus`s brothers chances of surviving childbirth or past 5 or so were not very good. joe was considered middle class because he was a skilled tradesman. he`d be right at home here in the usa. when he was`t working the family just barely survived by working for the uber rich landowners. if john the baptist had`t have died jesus would have been a footnote in history.

i watch every teevee program about the history of religions and ancient civilizations.

book, one that was an important part of the Hebrew scriptures before the canon was closed toward the end of the first century. Jubilees and the Book of Enoch are very important sources for the ideas of Christianity, but when the Catholic Church finalized the NT they decided to let them go by the board and stick with the Jewish canon 'for authenticity'.

Both fascinating books, BTW. They make up a significant portion of the documents found at Qumran.

You get used to the same book having lots of names after a while. It comes from taking different guesses at how to imitate a Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic word.
