My sister gave me a souvenir key chain she got from the Coptics in Egypt. Guy is standing with his elbows bent, upper arms up and hands facing palms toward viewer. he is wearing a gold colored upper body armor(? looks metalic) a long red cape and a green long sleeved, knew length dress. He has two camels behind him. He looks young (we got another key chain that looks like an old guy and has a halo)
husband raised catholic says dress and symbolism should ID him (guessing John the Lessor?)
any ideas?

(9,137 posts)And I guess the bearded guy could be Pope Cyril VI of Alexandria, but without any insignia and not able to read the text, can't say for sure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Cyril_VI_of_Alexandria
the image fits but the material on Menas/Christopher seems more "fitting"

Try the Catholic Group (although I think tama may have gotten it). http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1221 They were able to identify a St. Barnabas statue.

(4,549 posts)I've lost most of my Arabic skills, but I was able to enter the text phonetically into google translate to get this: tkhkaar Church St. Karas Bahir Anba Bishay bisoohaj.
St. Karas, or "Anbba Karas" is a Coptic saint: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Karas
On edit: I'm sorry that I couldn't give you an accurate translation. My Arabic language skills have really deteriorated!
