Coverage as 115 cardinals gather in the Vatican to decide which of them will become the next leader of the world's 1.2bn Catholics

... A puff of black smoke from the chimney above the Sistine Chapel this evening signalled that the cardinals had not yet come to a decision. They will now retire to the isolation of St Martha’s House, within the Vatican walls, and reconvene tomorrow morning at 8.30am GMT for more deliberations ...

Black = Dark = Bad.

White = Light = Good.

No wonder African slavery was justified for so long by early believers...

with the conservative nature of the eventual choice.

That is, picking early would have been a good sign that they we going for change.

Have no idea if there is any validity to this theory, just putting it out there.
