Why do so many church people quote that being gay is an abomination?

Do they willfully overlook Proverbs 6:16-19?

New King James Version (NKJV)

16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren

And the people who are the worst and loudest at it are Christians who have never read the bible, I'm coming to think. They've read what they want to read, but the rest is another story.

Because that verse supports their pre-conceived opinion and they think the bible shields them from being called out for being the bigots they are.

This is why I wish that a liberal Christian sect would pull a Thomas Jefferson and cut out all references that support homophobia, sexism, abuse, and super natural occurrences from their bibles...

...or throw out the bible altogether and start a new book

see i'm more of the jimmy cliff variety.. 'many rivers to cross.. white cliffs of dover..' and all that.

it was *only my pride* that kept me alive.

maybe that's what it is. it's not that homosexuals are *gay* that makes them abominable in the bible's words. it's all those 'pride' festivals and parades. sheesh. it's right there in proverbs. one of the 7 deadly sins.

if churches didn't have to use phony code words like "inclusive" or "welcoming" to let everyone know "we treat gays and lesbians the way any decent group of human beings should"? Wouldn't it be nice if that could just be assumed about any group with the temerity to call itself a "church"?

For the Bible Tells Me So
2007
NR

Director Daniel G. Karslake goes to the Bible to examine the ways in which conservative Christian groups have used -- and sometimes exploited -- scripture to deny human rights to gays and lesbians around the world.

Unless you're claiming that anyone who thinks that any of it is actually what "god" said is delusional. If it IS what "god" said (no cherry-picking allowed), then what in the world is wrong with people saying that it should be strictly adhered to?

Didn't you know, blacks have the Mark of Cain! St. Paul didn't teach you to free the slaves, he taught you to not beat your slaves up too much! Jesus said "Slaves, obey your masters!"

That's Paul again.

Jesus said that he had come to «preach fredom to the captives. . . to free those that are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.» Luke 4:18-19.

And no, the Bible doesn't say that Blacks carry the mark of Cain.

where Jesus explicitly condemned slavery as wrong or advocated for its abolition.

I won't hold my breath, because we both know you can't. But there are plenty of places where Jesus came into contact with slavery and gave no indication that he was anything but hunky-dory with it.
