Jeremy Affeldt: Life, Justice and Major League Baseball
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt is being called the most honest athlete in America, after he was overpaid half a million dollars and handed it back. He joins us in the studio to talk about his new book, "To Stir a Movement," his Christian faith, and his work against child slavery and child poverty.
************ Jeremy has some rather unusual ideas. He presented this proof that God cares about baseball. The distance to first base is 90 feet, and it needs to be exactly that for the game to be played. The mound is distant 60 feet 6 inches, and any less the pitcher would strike out everyone. Any more the hitters would all hit safely. It's a perfect game. I hope nobody tells Jeremy about the lost tribe that put the mound out 66 feet 6 inches. What happened to them was terrible.

(82,333 posts)I'd much rather read his views on child poverty than snide remarks about the dimensions of a baseball diamond.

(49,533 posts)Those who proclaim from their ivory tower that religion has grown and moved beyond such simplistic concepts and practices are deluding themselves.

(6,271 posts)interpreted Christianity in a good way. It must be almost impossible not to like this guy.
Still, he doesn't really consider that other interpretations, harmful as they are, come from the same holy books.
