Related: About this forumAs Support For Same-Sex Marriage Grows, Religious Right Groups Vow To Push Back
After the U.S. Supreme Court issued two key rulings on same-sex marriage in late June, Religious Right figure Bryan Fischer wasted no time jumping off the rhetorical deep end.
With the DOMA decision, we have ceased to be a constitutional republic, Fischer, the American Family Associations director of issue analysis for government and public policy, said in a tweet. The words We the people are now meaningless.
Fischer didnt stop there. He continued his hysterical rant on Twitter: The DOMA ruling has now made the normalization of polygamy, pedophilia, incest and bestiality inevitable. Matter of time.
Fischer was referring to the high courts 5-4 ruling in U.S. v. Windsor declaring a portion of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a statute that forced the federal government not to recognize same-sex marriages legalized by states, unconstitutional. The court said it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment.
