Vatican unveils new magazine in Latin

Vatican City (AFP) - The Vatican on Friday presented a revamped version of its Latin-language journal "Latinitas" as it tries bid to make the dead language still used in the Catholic Church accessible to a wider audience.

The first issue of the new twice-yearly magazine includes a preface written by Pope Francis, whose new Twitter account in Latin -- "Papa Franciscus" -- has reached more than 180,000 followers.

"The aim is to highlight the glorious tradition behind us that has to be preserved and re-launched," Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, head of the Vatican's culture department, said at the event.

The pope's predecessor, Benedict XVI, last year set up a special pontifical council known as "Academia Latinitatis" to spread learning in Latin in one of his last acts as pope before resigning.

My wife is okay with English, Spanish, Latin, and various other random languages. Amazing to me.

My linguistic mind got frozen in some English-Germanic place. But most of the time I'm not lingual at all. I don't "think" in a language unless I'm writing, or to a lesser extent, talking. I don't talk much. I watch movies by myself with the captions on and the sound turned very low. I don't like noise.

When I'm hanging out with my dogs I'm just a dog with no tail and a very poor nose. Our dogs pity me. I'm still the alpha, I feed them, but soften in our adventures they look at me like:

When I'm writing computer code I live in it. It's a great way to shut out this very confusing world...

I read the entire Bible when I was seven years old. I think that messed me up.
