I am not a good Catholic
I'll admit it. I don't stick to many of the rules. Being a liberal is very hard in most Christian beliefs.
But the Catholic Church is starting to change. Very slowly, more slowly than many would like, but changing all the same. Many others are not even moving slowly, they are not moving at all.
That is why, even though I am not a Good Catholic, I am happy I have changed.

(5,282 posts)But we keep at it, not giving up, not rejecting.
I haven't done well at Lenten resolutions; thought I'd go to weekday Mass at least once a week, but I only went on Ash Wednesday and no weekday since then.
Haven't said a rosary in decades (no pun), except maybe on a group retreat.
But I am a proud Catholic, and bristle when others denigrate my faith, even though I realize that there are real problems within the clergy and the hierarchy. After all, the Catholic Church is composed of human beings, who have frailties and weaknesses, and I am one of those persons with frailties and weaknesses, too.

(4,477 posts)We just have to keep trying our best, and with the grace of God, we will be able to say with the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
