Dowling Catholic students protest decision not to hire gay teacher

A group of Dowling Catholic High School students and alumni Wednesday afternoon protested the school's decision to not hire a gay teacher.

Several students and alumni spoke at a walkout, with some identifying themselves as LGBT.

Many of the speakers talked about the importance of acceptance, and that the issue is not just with Dowling, but is a broader issue.

The walkout ended with a prayer, protesters holding hands.

Somehow they never got brainwashed into thinking they had to choose between their faith and their support for civil rights.
