Anti-Israel protesters attack Paris synagogue

Cross posting from LBN that was locked by a known pro-Palestinian moderator. I wish he would stay away from these threads.

Dozens of young men protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza briefly besieged a Paris synagogue and clashed with security. At least three Jews were taken to hospital as a result of the clashes the erupted on Sunday between the protesters and young Jewish men who guarded the Synagogue de la Roquette in Paris, a witness told JTA.

The attackers splintered off an anti-Israel demonstration and advanced toward the synagogue when it was full,” Alain Azria, a French Jewish journalist who covered the event told JTA.

Azria said that when the men arrived at the synagogue, located at the 11th Arrodissement near Gare de Lyon, there were only five police officers guarding the place. The police blocked the entrance to the synagogue while close to 200 congregants were inside and as the protesters chanted anti-Semitic slogans and hurled objects at the synagogue and its guards, Azria said.

“They were determined to enter and the police did not have enough forces,” he said.

And my commentary:

There have been many anti Israel protests around the world, many waving swastika, referring to Israel as Nazi.

There have been many protests around the globe that I remember, starting with anti-Vietnam and anti Iraq invasion.

I do not recall rallies against the atrocities in Africa: Darfur, Congo, Mali, Nigeria; or against the "cleansing" in Cambodia, against the atrocities after the breakdown of Yugoslavia; against Saddam Hussein invasion of Kuwait in 1990; and of course none against Syria and ISIL.

Why is it the the "world" protests only when Western nations attack non-Western ones (Israel and the U.S.)?

And the "world" invokes Hitler and Nazi and Swastika only when the protests are against the Jews.

Here are additional facts: Both Sadat of Egypt and the Mufti of Jerusalem openly supported Nazi Germany and Hitler during WWII; back in 2006, a woman wearing a Muslim garb in Miami yelled at a pro-Israel rally: Jews, go back to the ovens; and now, protests comparing Israel to Nazi Germany, waving swastikas. I think we should conclude that most anti-Israel protests really are old fashioned Anti-Semitism disguised as anti Israel.

On the bright side, the French police weren't actively helping the proto-Nazis like they did 60 years ago.

Rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld of Ohev Shalom-The National Synagogue in Washington, D.C., heads to Paris this weekend to deliver the Shabbat morning dvar Torah at the Don Isaac Abravanel synagogue, which was attacked by pro-Palestinian protesters on Sunday.

“When a synagogue is attacked anywhere in the world, it’s not just an attack on that synagogue, it’s an attack on every synagogue,” Herzfeld said.

When he hears of attacks on Jewish places of worship, he always tries to reach out to them, he said. In this case, he will get a chance to visit and carry a message to the congregants.

According to reports, about 100 young protesters stormed the Abravanel synagogue July 13, throwing rocks and other objects and trapping worshippers inside. JTA reported that three Jews were hospitalized following the incident.

Anti-Israel protesters trap hundreds in Paris synagogue

Clashes erupted in Paris on Sunday as thousands of people protested against Israel and in support of residents in the Gaza Strip, where a six-day conflict has left 166 Palestinians dead.

Several thousand demonstrators walked calmly through the streets of Paris behind a large banner that read “Total Support for the Struggle of the Palestinian People”.

But clashes erupted at the end of the march on Bastille Square, with people throwing projectiles onto a cordon of police who responded with tear gas. The unrest was continuing early Sunday evening.

Media reports said that hundreds of Jews were trapped inside a synagogue in the area and police units were sent to rescue them.

See, what you don't understand is this is "understandable blowback." Sure, it is wrong to attack a member of a group for being a member of said group when someone from the same group does something bad, unless said group includes Jews. The crocodile tears start to well up, but they never even drop.

BTW, LBN has some pretty strict rules, one being the article must have been published within the past 12 hours. Of course, chances are it would have been alerted anyway because stories like that (where anti-Semitism is the focus) are often decried as not "being of national interest" when it isn't specifically tied to the US. Sure, there are examples of other such non-national interest stories being posted, but that's different, dontcha know.

Than when you see people that are pro-Palestine just because they hate Jewish people or pro-Israel because they hate Muslim people. Someone needs to tell these people the only thing they are "pro" is bigotry. Because it helps no one, and serves no purpose other than making things worse.
