Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn (OH) vandalized with swastikas painted on headstones

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland released the following statement shortly after the discovery of the vandalized headstones:

"It is absolutely sickening that anyone could have so much hate for the Jewish people that they would desecrate a cemetery. This cowardly act to violate the memory of our elders only confirms what we already know: the hatred of the Jewish community here and around the world now is at a level not seen in generations.

We will support law enforcement in any way we can to see that those who are responsible face the consequences of their actions. We will restore the damage of the cemetery and return the dignity to the damaged gravesites. And we will continue combat hate against all communities with an unbending resolve."

1. Where do people get such "HATE" that they would vandalize headstones in a cemetary?

5. Maybe from reading unverified tale after unverified tale of Israeli attacks on "babies,

hospitals, old women, innocents , etc.” as though this was happening in a vacuum and not after having a (verified) horrific terrorist attack perpetrated on them. Low information readers or, more likely, listeners can take just so much of this before someone cracks.

Even here on DU there are posters who post every piece of tabloid trash they can find that reflects badly on Israelis. Some post nothing else. Fortunately, we have an “ignore” option here, which I have made very liberal use of in recent days, but not everyone can bring themselves to turn off the tv or the internet.

2. How sad that I am relieved.

At least, for now, they are sticking to dead Jews and Jewish institutions, which many seem to have little to no concern over the immense meaning of such displays of hate. I guess once the killing starts, we will have to prepare for the deluge of crocodile tears. So for now, we just prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I could give you a hug. It won't stop what is coming - but it might give you one moment of peace.

Might be an inappropriate place at DU to post this . . . but you and your husband need a gun. The Klan knew my dad's family *compound* was heavily armed in Talladega - and they knew what they were getting into if they threatened them.

I am low key about gun ownership at DU - but a shotgun for home defense and hunting is fair game.

I wouldn't have posted ^that^ unless I was sincere.

How many years have we *spoken* about this? BTA - its now. Tree of Life and Emmanuel were a canary in the coal mine.

ETA - for other black Americans who descend from Jim Crow . . . learn the history of the NAACP. Still think you should take it out on Americans who are Jewish (specifically Americans)? Look at how much money Hamas has frittered away in Humanitarian Aid from the US alone since 2006.

That was clean water in Michigan and Mississippi.

That was funding for the UNCF.

That was money for universal Pre-K.

Should I continue? Because the State Legislature and Governor Murphy in NJ would have used those funds to ensure every child in NJ had school breakfast and lunch, provided more transitional housing for kids leaving the foster system, and funded healthcare for people in the margins.
