(Jewish Group) As Brooklyn Hate Crime Suspect is Arrested, Time for the Left to Rethink Its Attitude

(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)

Earlier today, the New York Police Department arrested the man suspected of vandalizing the Union Temple in Brooklyn by scrawling “Hitler” and “Die Jewish rats” on its wall. The man, James Polite, is also being investigated for allegedly attempting to set several Jewish institutions throughout the city on fire.

Polite, 26, is not a white supremacist. He is African-American, was raised in part by Jewish foster parents, and was sent to Brandeis University with the help of a charity run by The New York Times. He was a Democratic party activist, a protégée of former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and a one-time City Hall intern who, according to the Times, worked on “initiatives to combat hate crime, sexual assault and domestic violence.”

But Polite’s journey through so many of contemporary liberalism’s most vaunted paths—academia, politics, activism—and the kindness shown him by Jews were apparently not enough to prevent him from contracting the mind-numbing virus of anti-Semitism. A day before he set out to vandalize the synagogue, he took to Facebook and wrote: “Civil war is here. Nobody gotta die. Mexico, latin America, carribean vs. Jew nigger pigs. One person touch me this whole shit a smoking.”

That same day, Polite also posted a photo of himself lighting the American flag on fire. Police suspect—and security footage seems to affirm—that later that night he also set fire to seven shuls and yeshivas in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Rethinking is ok...maybe the gop can have their INITIAL thought on white right extremism before we accept responsibility for the madness? just a thought.

I didn't see that anywhere in the article. I also didn't see " we accept responsibility for the madness" either. Oh, that is because your comments are STRAWMAN arguments.

"Rethinking is ok" Is it? You don't seem to think so. This isn't a rightwing/conservative site, therefore we needn't concern ourselves with what they need to "rethink". Let the "Free Republic" and other sites "rethink" their anti-Semitism.

While we are at it, why do some feel the need to pretend anti-Semitism isn't a issue on the left? Do you think racism/sexism/homophobia/Islamophobia exist on the left? If so, do we need to address those issues or just pretend only the right is guilty?

on that thread as well. I'd die for the man. Please don't pick and choose posts you dont like to make me look bad. Sorry if I stick up for Dems. I wouldnt think that would be a bad thing on DU. I was polite to EB too. If a jury thinks Im wrong, please, pass judgement. If not, realize everyones in a high state of anxiety and give the understanding you expect for yourself I guess. Not sure what to say bc it seems you just want to pick a fight and I'm not here to fight w people. I post as things roll. That's all. See my profile and my signature line. I try to follow the rules and got called out once in over 5k posts. not sure really what you want from me. I see folks w literally hundreds of posts saying things only a repub would say, and nobody seems to say anything. I'm far from perfect, and the first to admit it.
I'm sorry for making you mad i guess. Does that help?

Please go through my 5k posts and post a few good ones as well. To be fair.
Edit...Please also pull some of my other posts from that thread to about Obama. That was a cheap shot and you know it. Unreal.

You chose to make it about him and ignore EVERYTHING else in the article and I didn't mention even him.

You aren't a victim, no matter what you think. You chose to post something in a specialized group, one that was recently attacked in a violent ANTI-SEMITIC act. This article is about another ANTI-SEMITIC act. If you don't care to discuss that topic, then don't. But don't come in here making strawman arguments, then play the victim when you get called on it.

I post as things roll. That's all.

Then don't be surprised when you get responses.

Did you miss the whole thing over the Women’s March founders who are also Farrakhan devotees? Have you missed the stories of Jewish students being ostracized or punished on US campuses over the years?

I mean you can keep ignoring the problem of antisemitism on the left if you want.

Don't come from who one would rationally expect, at least without some thought.

The majority of the perps are also minorities, typically African-American, followed by Muslims or middle-easterners.

It makes sense when you dig into the numbers a bit --- a solid plurality of African Americans hold anti-Semitic beliefs and the solid majority of Muslims hold anti-Semitic beliefs, whereas even among Trump supporting whites, it's a small percentage.

It's really pretty typical.

The most anti-black group in the USA? Hispanics, followed by Asians.

The most anti-Hispanic? African-Americans, followed by Asians.

The most anti-Asian? African-Americans, followed by Hispanics.

The most anti-Muslim? Jewish people, followed by Hispanics, followed by Asians, followed by African-Americans.

In all cases, whites ("Anglos" in my adopted state of NM) are the least likely to have biases.

I don't really understand the reasons, except to refer back to my childhood in 1930s NYC (yes, I am that old). I lived in a Jewish block. Our big enemies were the Italians, followed by the Irish. We got along fine with African-Americans, as they had their own thing going on (ironically due to de facto segregation). In fact, the African Americans were considered an inspirational group, as they were deemed successful.

We were fighting for the scraps against the Italians. Ergo, we hated them.

I don't know if that is what is going on, but I suspect it to be the case.

I recognized it was a Jewish Thread after the angst. I'll be more careful. It's made me feel bad since then and I hate defending myself. i feel i do think before i type. I live in an all red farming district and I refuse to be pushed around...even a little.
i have initial stages of early alzheimers and I'm not perfect. (I think thats what my geron Dr told me...om gosh. The years....) I probably shouldnt type at all. Your post was kind and i appreciate it. (I really mean it.) A relief bc i felt i had hurt someones feelings. I too am worried undercover repubs rattle our cages around here. And I think they count on us folding so it gives license to be testy. Im testy too sometimes. We're all human. Good luck in your district tomorrow. I for one am about worn out but will be making calls tomorrow from the district Im currently in.
Appreciated that you took all that time to explain. CC
ps...I just shed a tear reading that bc I was afraid it was another wave of ugly. Tears seems to happen now when nice things happen. Silly i suppose. Youd think itd be the opposite. I needed that. Be well.
