Crazy.
We have, on occasion, a "pray for the animals" in town. I can see the need for spiritual connection with the pet, but why does it have to be related to Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Actually, a Jewish service doesn't require anyone in particular, to "officiate". The rabbi is a knowledgeable person and the cantor is someone with a good voice, who sings the service. However, any group of Jews, can form a minyan, and hold a service.... (assuming they know the service).

Sure, nice to have a reason for a party but to borrow from a real Bar Mitzvah can belittle all the young boys and girls - now considered adults - who take that event seriously.
Just my opinion

(3,584 posts)The torah is about mankind's relationship with g-d and each other.
A bark mitzvah and a cat mitzvah would be about our kittehs' and pooches' relationship with us, their 'humans'. And of course their relating to us, is already a part of who they are. They are born with that. They do not need to read it from anything.
We can just celebrate them as a gift from g-d. When all else fails us, they still love us.
