The BRCA genes

Angelina Julie was in the news today, choosing a double mastectomy because she found out to carry BRCA1 gene

All reports said how rare this mutation is.

In the general population, yes, but not among Jews of Ashkenazi heritage.

And while the BRCA diagnosis is expensive, about $3K unless the insurance pays for it, there is another study specific for Ashkenazi Jews that cost around $600.
