SpaceX Reports Malfunction With Space Station Craft

By Brendan McGarry on March 01, 2013

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. has reported a malfunction with the engines of a cargo supply ship bound for the International Space Station.

Elon Musk, chief executive officer of the Hawthorne, California-based company known as SpaceX, announced the glitch in a Twitter posting about a half hour after the 10:10 a.m. launch of the Dragon spacecraft. The unmanned craft was launched from a Falcon rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

“Issue with Dragon thruster pods,” Musk wrote. “System inhibiting three of four from initializing. About to command inhibit override.”

George Diller, a NASA spokesman, said the craft remains on schedule to link up with the space station tomorrow after it managed to successfully deploy its solar arrays, which supply power to the ship.
