One quibble with the article, though:
Metsävainio has previously produced outstanding images in 3-D the usual way, with stereo pairs and anaglyphs, but his new experimental 3-D work is incredible!
At the risk of sounding like a "3D snob," these animated GIFs are really just for people who can't view 3D pairs. If you want to see "incredible" you need to learn how to view his work as full-size cross-view pairs. Compared to those, these animated GIFs are merely "interesting" (and anaglyphs are garbage).

This animation in made from pairs offset by 3 frames. (It's 10MB, so I won't put it inline. It takes a while to load before the animation will be smooth.)
