Gonorrhoea heading towards untreatable status WHO

Gonorrhoea heading towards untreatable status – WHO
Paul Gallagher 2 hours
Friday July 7th 2017

Gonorrhoea is becoming increasingly harder – and sometimes impossible – to treat according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Data from 77 countries show that antibiotic resistance is making the common sexually-transmitted infection as incurable as it was in the 1920s, before the first drugs to treat it were discovered.

More than 60 per cent of countries surveyed around the world have reported cases that resist last-resort antibiotics, the WHO said.

“The bacteria that cause gonorrhoea are particularly smart. Every time we use a new class of antibiotics to treat the infection, the bacteria evolve to resist them,” said Dr Teodora Wi, medical officer at the WHO.

I am sick and tired of the science deniers and crackpots that run our government and suck all the air out of the room when serious people try to explain serious problems. From evolution (as is the case here with resistance and bugs becoming untreatable) to climate science to social science issues they are a hideous disaster to progress for the species and an existential threat in the long run...

The GOP and evangelical "Christians" can all rot in hell as far as I care, or at least rot in diseases that they refuse to properly understand or fund even basic research that can help save lives. These "pro-lifer" asshats need to be called what they truly are - anti-women's right of self-determination and pro-patriarchy douchebag hypocrites. Fuck them all, sideways, with a garden rake.

They have perverted science funding and basic understanding of science in this country to something of an international joke. They have perverted their alleged "faith" to a caricature of what it was supposed to be and they are evil people, period.

4. Collateral dammage in the acquiescence of religious nonsense...it is past time to end it.

A clarion call to wake people up and educate them on the true dangers of allowing this scourge of religion to persist into the 21st century with idiotic ideas and political motivations thrown in for good measure.

It is time for humanity to shake off ALL religion like fleas or watch as we allow it to kill us all.

Evolution is fact.
Climate science is fact.

Creationism is fiction.
Denialism is malignant fiction.

The longer we allow people to profess "faith" without denouncing these extremist ideologies, the closer we come to doomsday at the hands of madmen and fools that believe them...

Bugs will mutate no matter what we're talking to each other about.

2. It's almost like the bacteria have adapted to the new environment they have to live in.

And that each generation has changed slightly.

Somebody should come up with a word for that. Hmmm...
