IMAGE 1 OF 29 A woman walks her horse among ancient petrified tree roots and branches revealed on Redcar beach on March 6, 2018 in Redcar, England. Following recent bad weather including Storm Emma, the sand on the beach has been washed away revealing the ancient forest. The first written account of the submerged forest dates from 1871, the petrified tree stumps give an insight as to how this stretch of coastline looked at least 7,000 years ago.
A storm in England last week uncovered an ancient forest hidden beneath a beach for thousands of years.
The sands of Redcar beach in northern England were washed away, revealing a petrified "forest of birch, oak, beech and sycamore trees" dating back 7,000 years, the Express reported.
The forest was first written about in 1871, according to photo captions provided by Ian Forsyth on Getty.
