especially text from the older source documents, will tell you that the rest of us were already here, living outside Eden.

Eden was a cage and Adam & Eve were either lab rats or pets, depending on how you look at it. In any case, god lied and the serpent told the truth and Adam was a wimp who blamed Eve for everything, failing to take responsibility for his own action. After all, Eve apparently handled the fruit just fine. God didn't blow a fit until that weakling Adam took it away from her and chowed down on it.

Also realize that while they produced 2 males, only one of them actually lived. Even with multiple wives and concubines, he wasn't enough to sire all of us, not with only 6,000 years for his progeny to get around. He'd have needed at least ten times that amount of time.

I've always thought my own ancestry was from Lilith, anyway.

Never heard that explanation before. That's wild

Ok Ms Smarty Pants how about this one

If God created the Earth from nothing, why did he need Adam's rib to create a woman?

and we've already established that he was a wimp and none too bright.

After all, Lilith (created from the same mud) took one look at him and said "Hell to the NO!" and fled the Garden.

Maybe god was out of magic mud by then. Or more likely, Adam just got it wrong since he (and his descendents) still have all their ribs.

my mom told me than men have one less rib than women. She actually believed it and she was never particularly religious, just really gullible.

For years, she thought black babies were born white and turned black as they got older. This because she saw a black woman pushing a carriage with a white baby in the 60's in a part of Canada that was very white bread. Possibly may have been one of the first black people she had ever seen. I guess the woman was tired of getting 'looks' so that's what she told her. And she believed it and tried to pass on that knowledge to me. She was quite upset when I told her she was wrong.

I have to admire that woman for her restraint, I think I'd have come up with an even more preposterous story.

So the rest of us existing already outside of Eden makes perfect sense in that context. The Hebrew faith recognizes themselves as their own superior race of "gods chosen". Descended from Adam and Eve.

The funny math that doesn't work can all be attributed to modern biblical literalists trying to force beliefs written to exult a specific tribe to fit their modern world. It obviously fails on any level outside of blind faith.

"And Cain knew his wife"

The first mention in the bible of a person not either Adam, Eve, Cain or Abel.

Warpy has it right. At least as far as the land of Nod was concerned.

Apparently, plenty enough women, with at least one willing to boff ol' Cain.

"Lab Rats".
Perfect.
