I think I might have lost a sister tonight... over facebook

I don't even now how I feel about it. First she re-posted a tea party post calling for a boycott on Starbucks because of their support for equal rights. And I think I showed great restraint by only posting the lyrics to "None of us are Free" in response. Then she posted something but that bigot Warren Jeffs trying to pretend that bigots aren't bigots, and I had to mention that the bigots used the same arguments a little over a decade before to make my parents marriage illegal.

Then she posted "when did you become so hateful and judgmental" and by the time I responded with the dictionary definition of a bigot she had deleted her facebook page.

Her religion disgust mes, but more then that her eldest son was already obviously gay before they even joined the church, that has warped their minds. It break my heart to watch the sweet little boy I knew get angrier and angrier at the world, while he hates himself more and more everyday.

some time in his 20s. It's worth keeping minimal contact with that family just so he knows he's got somewhere to run to where he won't be judged and sent to hell.

I hope that happens. It's happened to a lot of gay men I know who were raised in various gay-hating cults.

Unfortunately, your sister is a lost cause if she's a follower of that pedophile fraud, Jeffs.

I don't know if you want to escalate this, but SHE is the hateful and judgmental person here.

Pick up the phone. Use it to schedule a nice breakfast/lunch meeting, or some quality family time doing something that will build positive memories. Find a reason to laugh together. Remember that "liking" people in real life is more important than the little Facebook button.

Let go of the drama and self-righteousness. Obviously you were right and she was being an idiot, but there really isn't any need to rub her nose in it.

They are not the worst that I have encountered, and at least we all are atheists, but we have had huge fights and have made the decision to never talk politics....ever. We also will not send partisan emails. Basically, we know where we all stand, and it isn't worth it. We do have a lot we like about each other, and we stay there.
