Its interesting that we put the word God on our money. Especially since, to so many people, money is God.
People say that this is a Christian nation and that In God We Trust is a Christian phrase but, cant it be any God? There are a lot of different Gods and many people believe in more than one God. Theyre not included though because, if they were, we would have to say In God(s) We Trust.
Plus, that would suggest we (being our whole nation) accept that were a nation of all religions. If this were the case, we should probably just Leave God out of our Government and off our Money.
So, basically, its saying that we trust in who?
or what? What God? If it is a Christian God then, what denomination? Who, or what, are we trusting in?
Maybe, we should just Leave God out of our Government and off our Money.
Were a nation of individuals. Lets celebrate that.

(488 posts)Check out the 1908 "no motto" double eagle, one of the most highly regarded designs ever to grace a US coin:

Of course shortly after these were released into circulation, people started freaking out that we weren't clinging to our sky daddy adequately enough anymore:
"Roosevelt had specifically requested Saint-Gaudens not to put "In God We Trust" on the new coin, feeling that the motto's presence on coins was a debasement of God's name, as the coins might be spent to further criminal activities.[44] Saint-Gaudens was quite willing to omit the motto, as he felt the words detracted from the design elements.[45] There was a public outcry about the omission of the motto, and what Breen describes as an "outraged and furious" Congress ordered the motto to appear. Barber duly modified the coin to include the motto, taking the opportunity to make several minor changes to the design, which, according to Breen, do not improve the coin."

Anyway, we've tried (for the wrong reasons) to take Sky Daddy's name off our coins, and yet today here we are. I suppose a case could be made to ban the motto on constitutional grounds, and I would wholeheartedly support that. I doubt it would end well, given the naked, rabid insanity that groups like the Tealiban are putting on display these days, though.
