I know how to knit AND crochet and I can tell the difference. Don't do either one, though. Nothing against them.

which is helpful when you need to stab 2 people who keep interrupting you when you're counting "whatcha makin? whatcha doin? whatcha makin? whacha doin?"

So when someone asks what you're knitting you can stab them with the needle and have you're hook clean.

That's a joke. Crocheters use hooks, so we're Hooker's hehe. Get it? Some of the little old ladies at Bingo wear shirts that say "Happy Hooker"

oh did i say little old ladies? My bad. I mean hot chicks in their 20s and 30's I "hang out" with (hehe) and crochet with, when we're done "Hanging out"

People and their stereotypes. Such a silly way to limit the mind.

I used to get jabbed with them a lot as as teenager, because I'd use telling my mom what my plans were for the afternoon as an excuse to yell numbers while she was trying to count.

"At FIVE THIRTY Bobby and TWO other friends are going to pick me up and the FOUR of us are going to take THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY EIGHT dollars and FORTY TWO cents and go...."

The stabbings were totally justified.

I had to count out a HUGE chain...like 136 or something crazy. And i'm in the lunch room and OBVIOUSLY counting and she's just blab blab blar blag blarg. SHUT UP. I'm seriously asking her "Jayme, can you hold off until I'm done counting?" She says "yeah. Okay" and is silent for...oh...7 seconds then just starts up again. I wanted to jam that fucking hook into her eye socket and pull out her frontal lobe SO GODDAMN BAD.

Whilst I have never done needle work lace myself, I'm sure it's something I could get into, given that I can spell bad words with the lace, and I'd imagine that lace requires needles that are good for stabbing.

but tatting lace requires a hook, not needles. At least the lace that I did. Not fun. Think crochet with tiny hook and very thin yarn.

The Hollie Point thing.... I liked to it because it is (was) insanely delicate and tedious. It's basically crocheting with a tiny needle and a single thin linen thread. The pattern is rendered by dropping a stitch in the right place. Go ahead, stay up all night doing it by candle light!

Life before machines!

There's this amazing Dutch knitted petticoat from the early 18th century that is, well, amazing... since, as you know, the thing has to be worked out horizontal line of stitches by horizontal line of stitches.

to do shit all day long by hand from like 4am until the sun went down. Every day of their miserable, toil-and-filth-filled lives.

I work 8 hours a day (and I use "work" lightly), 5 days a week and I think I get a total of like 89 days off a year not including weekends and the 230948023 holidays they give us. And it takes me nearly a year to make a hat.

Not that I can do anything but straight pieces---scarves, pet blankets, afghans, telephone pole covers, bedspreads. I will never do another queen size bedspread again---talk about heavy.

Is there a pattern online?

I'll postie some pics of a few things I've done recently later.

My newest interest is Irish lace (crocheted) but I generally only do needlework when I'm on vacation, so I only have a few motifs done.

"But perhaps the most arresting memory that they take away from being on set with living legend Judi Dench is not her boundless fascination with acting but her penchant for subversive needlework," reads the passage from Premier Magazine. "'She makes these like needlework embroideries on set in the tedium of filming', says MacFadyen, 'but they are all: 'You Are a Cunt'. And she gives them as presents. And it's Dame Judi Dench. And she is doing this beautifully, intricate, ornate (work). You kind of see the work materializing as the shoot goes on. Like: 'You Are a Fucking Shit.'"
