Another atheist movie character...

For those who are new here, I'll usually post whenever I come across a movie with an atheist character.

Yeah, weird, but it's a hobby, OK? More srsly, I am interested in how we are depicted in popular culture and think movies are sometimes a good barometer of that. Of course, crap movies that stack the deck, like God's Not Dead, don't apply.

As always, feel free to tell us about any of your faves. I always like to hear about movies I haven't seen.

So this movie was made way back in 2006 but I just saw it on cable this week: Five Fingers. Link below.

Do NOT read any SPOILER reviews if you intend to see it. The movie has a lot of great twists and you'll enjoy it a lot more if you don't see them coming.

Ryan Philippe plays an altruistic Dutch guy trying to start a food bank in Morocco. Along with his contact (the great Colm Meaney), he is kidnapped by terrorists within minutes of landing in Morocco.

Laurence Fishburne is just awesome as the terrorist interrogator. By turns charming and ultra-threatening.

Ably assisted by a nurse who's an angel of absolutely no mercy at all, Touriya Haoud.

Really worth the 90 minutes or so of viewing time.

Still corny. Still fun!

Who doesn't love Raquel Welch being attached by antibodies?

And the little "radar dishes" around the patient's head?

Of course, all the doctors are like "Look at this miracle of life from god!"

And the mean old atheist, who is also the saboteur, is like "It's just a simple exchange of oxygen"....
