You ALWAYS hear it.

Whenever some fundie f**kwit goes off on an anti-gay tirade or some rePUKE is pushing his women-should-be-barefoot-and-pregnant nonsense, it seems you always hear someone say "They're not REAL Christians."

I would like to know, what is a Real Christian™?

There are scriptural provisions for defining a Christian, but those aren't uniformly agreed upon. The simple fact is that the religion is so diverse that there's no agreement over even the most basic tenets of faith.

Christian beliefs literally stretch from the literalists who believe in a bearded white guy in the sky to the apophatics who believe a wide range of things that don't include God as a literal being.

The best kind in my opinion are those that do not allow the book to hinder any progress of thinking if it opposes the bible. Such as creation, evolution, and other common theist/atheist arguments. I may be a bit biased here, but I think most of the DU Christians (not necessarily the ones in the Christian group) are pretty good folks.

I'll tell you who isn't a real christian
OBAMA... come on he was born in Kenya to a Muslim father. He won't even show his birth certificate. He didn't thank god in a youtube thanksgiving speech, how much more evidence do I need to show you!! (Please understand that was a joke)

1. the divinity of Jesus, and

2. that he died to save humanity from sin.

3. Consequently, one must also accept that humanity is damned without this vicarious sacrifice.

If they believe that then they are real Christians, protestations notwithstanding. If they do NOT believe those things and believe that JC was a wise teacher and healer, but without the "Good Friday" stuff, they are not Christians in the usual sense.

Only with no orifices and a bible in its plastic hands.

Seriously, with something like 35,000 different flavours of this blasted religion, all proclaiming that THEY alone possess the One True Word and the other 34,999 are cults, it's not hard to affirm in your mind that most people who proclaim to be Christian are not RealChristians(tm)

My figures were from around 2000...

That ought to tell a person something, don't you think? One book, one gawd, one Jeebus, and 42,000 different interpretations of what they're all about.
