We're invited to the Nat'l. Day of Prayer!

NOTE: Posted in the Atheists/Agnostics Group, a safe haven. You know the drill.

Well, I'm excited! What should I wear? The T-shirt with INFIDEL in Arabic and English on the front?

This is a local version of that useless "National Day of Prayer" event. Where everybody gathers to pray for "our natiion and its leaders."

As covered in one of the local papers, the invite is from the Chief Chaplain of the county Sheriff's Dept.:

"It's not just a Christian event," he said. "It's open to the public. People are welcome to come. There may be an atheist or agnostic, and we're glad for them to come too."

As a non-tailor, I'm not sure why I'd want to attend an event dedicated to praising the Emperor's new clothes.

Especially when the same guy who invited me goes on to say this:

"This brief time together...will offer everyone an opportunity to do their best work by praying together, bridging our small differences and connecting our mutual faith and hope in God."

Even the atheists, I guess.

I like to point out that in Matthew 6:5, their holy book specifically forbids this behavior. Gore1FL May 2015 #8

"Hey, people who don't share our religious practices - you are welcome to come and share our religious practices while tacitly acknowledging that our beliefs are right and yours are wrong!"

Delicious interfaithy goodness.

... to show they don't want to be ostracized by the community.... to be seen as a safe member of the flock.

I don't know if it makes them think or not. In any event, I like to point it out.

Well, the local version of the big Natl. Day of Prayer event happened yesterday.

Headline in the local paper said "HUNDREDS Come Out To Pray." A reporter estimated "at least 250." Of course, that number could have been skewed by passing Buddhists, atheists, Fallen Women or agnostic corn-dog vendors being counted by mistake.

Article led off with a touching story of a man on life support 3 months ago, who was CURED!1! thanks to the prayers of his wife and her prayer circle. No, really, it actually said that.

His wife went to the Natl. Day of Prayer event to re-boot her miraculous prayers or something.

Her husband, after narrowly escaping death thanks to Jesus & Co., showed his appreciation by going fishing on the Big Day. "Thanks for saving me, Jesus. Now fuck off, the catfish are biting..."

Keynote speaker was a local Presbyterian pastor, who led off by praying "for this nation and culture and to the God who is in charge of it all." So God's in charge of our cuture now? Then It could at least spare the suffering American public and smite a few of those damned Kardashians, IMO.

Then the preacher really got into it:

The past few years had seen "more than 50 million killed for convenience," he said, referring to the acceptance of abortion, as well as the approval by three states of euthanasia laws and the removal of the Ten Commandments from courthouses, among other things he considered lamentable.

That preacher was a flaming liberal, compared to a woman speaker who leads the local Internet Prayer Task Force (no relation to the Internet Pr0n Task For:ce, which I am not in charge of, no matter what you may have read on the Internet):

(She) also prayed to end abortion and condemened the Muslim faith.

"I'm here to riot for Jesus. This is the word of God. It's not the Quran. It's not Muslims and their false faith."

Well, I don't think you can possibly get more inclusive than that!
